RICHQUID · FREE PREPARATION CHECKLIST · REVIEWED 18 SEPTEMBER 2026
Opening a UK bank account after arriving
Prepare for the bank’s checks without assuming every provider needs the same documents. This checklist is for your own use; do not send identity documents or account details to RichQuid.
1. Choose the account
Read the specific account’s age, residence and eligibility requirements.
Confirm whether you can apply online, in an app or at a branch.
Check monthly fees, cash access, overseas payment charges and support.
Separate the payment account from any optional overdraft application.
2. Prepare the evidence the bank accepts
Check your identity document is valid and accepted.
Ask which address documents fit your situation, including alternatives if you have no utility bill.
Check document dates and whether the bank needs originals, PDFs or another format.
Keep your name and address consistent; explain differences honestly.
Have your address history and tax-residence information available.
If immigration evidence is requested, check the bank’s current eVisa or share-code instructions.
3. Apply and follow up
Use the bank’s official website, app or branch for documents.
Keep the application reference privately and note any requested next action.
If delayed, ask what information is missing before applying again.
Maintain a way to pay essential expenses while the application is considered.
